What could it be?
Mercedes-Benz is preparing something new for the upcoming auto show season. A mysterious Mercedes-Benz concept vehicle, which was covered with a tarp, was lurking around a Mercedes-Benz facility.
The first thing that catches the eye is the unconventional shape of the car. Although the vehicle is heavily camouflaged, its low-slung, teardrop-like body is visible underneath the drapes, as well as the massive windshield extending towards the front fascia. The wheelbase seems longer than a midsize sedan’s, while the front and rear overhangs are shorter than usual.

It has a similar size as an S-Class while its body appears to be merged entirely. It also had no signs of a trunk, hood, or fenders. The grille featuring a horizontal bar, which was noticeable under the camouflage, is the only feature similar to the appearance of a typical Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
The long, smooth shape seems to channel air towards the back of the car, which almost looks shaped like a teardrop. Lending further credence to the idea that this is an aero-intensive concept is its lack of door handles. Instead, what looks like a touch control system stands out against the silver paint.

From what we see this concept is a combination between 2007 Mercedes-Benz F700 and 2011 Mercedes-Benz F125, but similarities end with the size and the shape of the glasshouse. Unlike this mysterious concept, the F700 came with a traditional hood and a taller front fascia.

F125 had only two doors although the lines of the vehicles resembles a lot. Making things even weirder are the small, narrow space-savers-like tires the vehicles rides on. However, judging by the size of the fender flares, these will be replaced by significantly larger rims and tires.

Considering its size, we can rule out any sporty intentions this concept might have, but the shape of it is a strong suggestion Mercedes-Benz is toying with high fuel efficiency and either a hybrid or an electric drivetrain. As with most concepts from the company’s F series, this study is likely to showcase technology Mercedes-Benz might be using five years from now. That said, this is either a preview for a mid- or full-size sedan, or an aerodynamic MPV of the future.

Let’s hope this concept will make its first appearance somewhere in 2015.
